for quatuor bozzini

for string quartet — ± 15'00" 2025

for quatuor bozzini is a string quartet based on my previous and ongoing research on Arab-Andalusian music. differently from the wide openness of my previous pieces, this one experiments with a more detailed notation, particularly in relation speed and timbral variations.

the most important finding of working on the piece was to work with 'muted textures' — and how this overall muting was intimately related to the shy distance/intimacy i have with Arab-Andalusian music.

the piece was commissioned by Quatuor Bozzini and Gaudeamus Festival 2025 and realized through the Composer's Kitchen project, including creation residencies in Montréal and Utrecht in june & sept 2025 and mentorships from Zosha Di Castri & Maya Verlaak. i'm mostly touched by the friendships developed throughout this project with my fellow 'cooks': Julia Mermelstein, Corie Rose Soumah & Niko Schroeder.
